Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano had a hush-hush budget meeting with top leaders of county labor unions a few days before his closed-door meeting last week with the watchdog Nassau Interim Finance Committee.

More than a dozen labor leaders dined with Mangano and some of this top staff at the Ruth Chris Steak House in Garden City on Friday night, April 30. He met with NIFA the following Wednesday.

Labor leaders were tight-lipped about what was discussed, except the menu.

“I had a steak. Rib eye,” one said.

“Shrimp, and salad,” said another.

Mangano picked up the tab, they said.

No response yet from Mangano’s people.

[UPDATE: A Mangano spokesman later declined to say what was talked about. "It was just a private dinner, paid for by Friends of Ed Mangano" (his campaign committee),  the spokesman said.]
