An invitation is going out for a fundraiser for Nassau Legis. David Denenberg (D-Merrick) who's preparing to run for state Senate in the 8th district, the seat vacated Dec. 31 by veteran Sen. Charles Fuschillo.

It lists an interesting line-up of names as specially-invited guests -- including Richard Schaffer, chairman of the Democratic committee in Suffolk, into which the district extends, as well as Nassau Chairman Jay Jacobs, state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli and Sen. Michael Gianaris, the Senate Democratic campaign chief.

According to the most recent state Board of Elections postings, the Nassau side of this district includes 63,686 Democrats and 65,615 Republicans, while the Suffolk portion has 20,472 Democrats and 11,829 Republicans. Republican prospects for the seat, mentioned so far, include Nassau Legis. Michael Venditto and Assemb. Joseph Saladino.
