Nassau Republican Chairman Joseph Mondello will not attend this week’s New York State Republican convention, where state GOP leaders are expected to nominate Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino as their candidate for governor.
Mondello, a former state Republican chairman, is already committed to attend the Nassau GOP committee's big annual dinner, which usually draws around 2,000 party loyalists, said spokesman Anthony Santino. The Nassau fundraiser, at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury on Wednesday evening, has been scheduled for nearly a year, he said.
The chairman will be sending a proxy to the state convention in Rye Brook. Mondello’s absence is no reflection on Astorino, Santino said. “None whatsoever. It’s a scheduling conflict.”
