Ricardo Montano, a Democrat who wants to take on longtime state Sen. Owen Johnson (R-West Babylon) has $79,100 in campaign funds, according to a statement he recently filed with the state. Most of the money is through loans.
Johnson, a senator since 1972, has $19,000 in the bank. That’s a very small sum for most incumbent senators, but not an atypical amount for Johnson at the opening of an election year.
Currently, Republicans hold a 32-29 advantage in the Senate, with one vacancy.
