Democrats in the Nassau County Legislature have scheduled a news conference Thursday to criticize the nomination of John Ciampoli as county attorney.

The news conference comes four day after the Rules Committee of the legislature approved the nomination 4-3, with all three Democrats voting against him.

But the Democrats gave him a veritable pass during the hearing. Minority Leader Diane Yatauro of Glen Cove asked a few questions, reading from notes and taking verbal prompts from her counsel, David Gugerty.

The other two Democrats, Judy Jacobs of Woodbury and Kevan Abrahams of Hempstead, did not ask questions, and were not on the list of Democrats expected to attend the news conference.
