Nassau Legis. David Denenberg’s golf outing Thursday was oversubscribed with 138 golfers at the Lido Golf Club in Lido Beach, according to event co-chairman Jeff Toback, a former county legislator.
Golfers paid $300 each to play at the fundraiser for the Merrick Democrat. Dinner tickets cost $150 each, with sponsorships running as high as $2,400 each
Nobody is saying, however, what office Denenberg is raising money to run for.
Under the redistricting plan adopted by the Republican-controlled legislature last year, Denenberg was drawn out of his 19th Legislative district. It is uncertain whether the lines will be changed before next year’s legislative race.
Denenberg has expressed interest in running for county executive. Other Democrats have suggested that he run for county comptroller or Hempstead Town clerk. County Executive Edward Mangano and George Maragos, both Republicans, face re-election in 2013. Town Clerk Mark Bonilla is facing calls to resign over sexual harassment claims.
“Today’s event is about raising money for bigger things to come,” Toback said. “The broad based support is really gratifying and lets us know we’re looking in the right direction."
