Nassau Comptroller George Maragos stopped by the Steve Levy reception at the Sheraton in Manhattan, site of the GOP convention, where a number of Berntsen backers celebrated. "I gave it my best," Maragos said after coming up shy of the weighted vote needed to qualify for a primary in September without a petition process, yielding about 18 percent on the first roll call. "I appreciate the consideration." He said he accepts the decision of the convention and will gladly return to service in the county.
