Third-term Rep. Chris Gibson, a Republican with deep roots in Kinderhook, has been mentioned for some time as a possible future candidate for statewide office, possibly governor. After all, he has a 24-year Army career behind him that included decorations and honors, and could attract a bipartisan fan base.

On Sept. 3, the New York GOP has Gibson appearing as "special guest" in its "Rising Star" event in a Saratoga home with a $125 per person-and-up reception that benefits the party's state committee.
