Spin Cycle

News, views and commentary on Long Island, state and national politics.

The Senate Democrats are sending this negative mailing against former Health Committee Chairman Kemp Hannon of Garden City (and presumably other GOP incumbents)* in their campaign to retain a majority in the state's upper house. Tying him to the extracurricular felonies of Tony Seminerio and Joe Bruno might strike you as a stretch, but hey -- it probably won't be anyplace near the nastiest thing we see in the next few months. The obvious strategy is to tie the opponents to the putatively unpopular Albany status quo, where dysfunction is both mantra and cliche.

*The same piece has been directed at Sen. Owen Johnson (R-West Babylon). For the record: Seminerio was a Democrat, from Queens.
