Being the “out” party has its perks when an economic crisis shakes public confidence in those in power.


Jay Jacobs, the state and Nassau Democratic leader, said Friday: “The Republicans have had a great opportunity in a financial crisis to pick and choose what they want to blame the Democrats for. That, frankly, is the luxury of being out of power — a luxury I will certainly try to enjoy on a county level over the next several months, but they (the GOP) will enjoy statewide.”
