The state has no term limits, so it's possible that Andrew M. Cuomo will remain governor long enough to see the Ryder Cup show in Bethpage in 2024, as described here by Yancey Roy.

Of course, term-limited soon-to-be-ex-NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg tried to get the 2012 Olympics to New York, and they went to London instead. The good news, as described by urban affairs expert Mitchell Moss, is that NYC did better in the visitors sweepstakes anyway.  His point of view is reported here.
