News, views and commentary on Long Island, state and national politics.
Politics on Long Island can be down and dirty but one local blog inadvertently took it to the extreme this week.
Visitors to the Schwartz Report, a site where bloggers gossip about politics, elected officials and police issues, may have been surprised this week to find advertisements for hard-core pornography.
A link to a page focused on Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano’s performance during superstorm Sandy redirected visitors to a page featuring X-rated videos and photos.
Webmaster Marty Schwartz said a company he hired to post ads on his site was hacked. Schwartz, who was hired last year as an assistant to Nassau’s fiscal director of housing and community development, said the porn was discovered on Monday and was completely removed from the site by Friday.
“We realized we had a problem with our new ad company,” Schwartz said. “We researched and cleansed it from the site as quickly as possible.”
Schwartz, who earns an $80,000 salary from the county, said it will cost him several hundred dollars in IT expenses to remove the X-rated material.
