Republican voters disapprove of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo for the first time since he took office two years ago, according to a poll released Tuesday by Quinnipiac University.
But the Democrat still has a comfortable overall 55-27 job approval rating.
Republican support of Cuomo peaked at 69 percent last July, according to Quinnipiac. In this latest poll, GOP voters now disapprove of the governor, 49 percent to 38.
Democrats still overwhelmingly approve of the job he's doing, 69-12. Independent voters also gave Cuomo the thumbs up, 49-34.
Quinnipiac surveyed 1,165 voters March 11 through Sunday. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.
