Here's how Steve Levy is responding to the questionnaire he filled out for Working Families Party so agreeably in the 2007 race, backing a single-payer health care plan that his newly embraced GOP has portrayed as threatening a socialist nightmare for Americans:

“Regarding the health care question: at the time the concept was on the radar screen because it could absolve county government from crushing federal Medicaid mandates. However, the debate of the last year shows that the federal government’s current plan actually increases the Medicaid burden in the state.”

Levy says of the other positions deemed objectionable by some rival Republicans:

“I have been and remain an advocate for comprehensive campaign reform which in the long term would lower taxes because it would mitigate the concept of “pay-to-play"....

“The living wage resolution in Suffolk has little impact on businesses since the market rate being paid often exceeds it.”
