A leading real estate group thinks that the appointment of John Ciampoli as Nassau County attorney means that incoming County Executive Edward Mangano is serious about fixing the property tax assessment system.

“He may just be the man we need to put this assessment system in order,” Desmond Ryan, executive director of the Association for a Better Long Island, said of the appointment, which is to be formally announced Tuesday.

“The county attorney’s office has habitually gone to trial on these case when they weren’t ready,” Ryan said, adding that he thinks Ciampoli will be able to decide which cases to settle and which to take to trial — and then be ready when the trial starts.

Ciampoli, a Hofstra Law grad who was admitted to the bar in 1985, brings a politically conservative tone to the Mangano, but he also brings a sense of humor, even it sometimes includes kicking the liberal media.
