An outside spending group with ties to national Republicans intends to oppose Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and aid Republican Rob Astorino during the final months of the campaign.
Rescue New York Inc. recently registered as a campaign committee with the state Board of Elections, though it hasn’t reported any spending activity. A board spokesman said the group’s registration form states: “Support Astorino/Oppose Cuomo.”
Its treasurer is Lisa Lisker, who worked as campaign treasurer for Newt Gingrich in 2012.
Cuomo has a huge cash advantage over Astorino: He had $35 million in his campaign account as of July 15 compared to the Republican’s $2.4 million.
