The Democratic senator from the Bronx said many websites are virtual head shops. His bill would carry a prison sentence of more than 5 years for selling more than 16 ounces of synthetic marijuana online. The bill would also fine online businesses selling the manufactured pot or pipes.

Klein and City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito last week released a report, The Online Smoke Shop, detailing the trade. The report said that sales were sometimes masked by terms such as K2 Spice, herbal incense, herbal potpourri, legal weed and incense bags.
