Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and ex-Assemb. Vito Lopez were sued Thursday by two of Lopez’ alleged sexual-harassment victims.
Victoria Burhans and Chloe Rivera filed state and federal lawsuits against Lopez (D-Brooklyn) and Silver (D-Manhattan), claiming the powerful Assembly speaker and the once-influential Lopez created a hostile work environment.
They accused Lopez of “deplorable conduct” in routinely harassing and groping young female staffers. They accuse Silver of “orchestrating a confidential payment” to shield Lopez.
"Lopez would not have been able to abuse plaintiffs without the assistance of the Speaker of the Assembly, Sheldon Silver," the lawsuit states.
The women are asking for back pay, as well as compensatory and punitive damages. But they asked for no specific amount.
