Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo will endorse Democrat Thomas Suozzi for Nassau County executive at a rally Saturday, sources with direct knowledge told Newsday.
Cuomo will make the announcement at a Democratic unity rally; he will endorse party candidates in Nassau and Suffolk counties. The event is slated for 11 a.m. at the Albertson VFW Hall.
Suozzi is trying to unseat Republican County Executive Edward Mangano, who ousted Suozzi in 2009.
Cuomo has had a cordial relationship with Mangano. On Friday, the governor joined Mangano and local officials to announce the reopening of the Long Beach boardwalk.
This will be the second high-profile endorsement Suozzi snags in a week. Thursday, former President Bill Clinton came to Nassau to back Suozzi’s comeback bid.
