Justin Meyers, spokesman for Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, finally acknowledged Monday that Bellone is away this week on a family vacation.
The admission came more than two weeks after Bellone, who is running for re-election this year, sent emails to more than 250 officials postponing his annual State of the County message from March 4 until March 26. At that time, all the aides would say was that Bellone had a “personal scheduling conflict.”
Even on Monday, Meyers declined to comment on the vacation destination. But Meyers said Bellone remains in contact and is on top of county operations.
