John Jay LaValle, new Suffolk GOP chairman, is trying to enlist Legis. Dan Losquadro (R-Shoreham) to run against Demcoratic Assemb. Marc Alessi.

LaValle acknowledges holding discussions with Losquadro only a day before his new baby was born about a week ago. He said he is not pressing Losquadro for a quick decision since party designations are not made until May, but said Losquadro could capitalize on voter unhappiness with Albany. He also said Alessi, once a frequent critic of LIPA when Gov. George Pataki was governor has been mum since Democrats now run the agency.

Losqaudro said he has not made any decision but added he “would not rule it out” but said he needs to talk it over with his wife.

Alessi said he is more concerned about fiscal condition of the state than his likely foe. “I never focused on who opponent is,” he said, “But especially this year with the fiscal crisis I want to just focus on the job.”
