Former Suffolk Community College Board chairman Ernesto Mattace Jr. had a prolonged soliloquy at the trustees meeting about a week ago, complaining that county legislators were not going to reappoint him to a new term as a board member.

Mattace, a board member for seven years, blamed the college unions for blackballing his reappointment — a claim union officials later said was untrue. Mattace also warned that he was not going away and would remain involved as a board member of the college foundation, which raises money for student scholarships. Mattace's impending departure comes after he was replaced last year as board chairman by relative board newcomer Dafny Irizarry. However, Democratic officials say Mattace, a retired retail union official, has become campaign manager for party congressional hopeful Vivianne Falcone, who is running against GOP Rep. Peter King.

A resolution naming Anne Shybunko-Moore, president of GSE Dynamics Inc., a Hauppauge defense contractor, to succeed Mattace on the board, was filed last week by Legis. Sarah Anker (D-Mt. Sinai). Another resolution was also filed to return former college trustee, James Morgo, one time chief deputy county executive, back on the board to replace Patricia McMahon, a Northrop Grumman vice president who resigned last month.
