Fenchel submitted a terse letter of resignation and declined comment when asked why he departed a year before his term was up.

The Suffolk Legislature will appoint a successor to fill the remaining year on Fenchel’s term. Deputy Presiding Officer Wayne Horsley said no names have surfaced to replace Fenchel, but he will solicit names of potential contenders from lawmakers.
