Eyebrows were raised last week among the Suffolk Industrial Development Agency officials when former executive director Bruce Ferguson showed up at their Hauppauge board meeting.

What made Ferguson’s appearance surprising was that it came at the first IDA meeting after his $155,000-a-year successor Anthony Manetta said he was leaving to start his own business. Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone forced out Ferguson after decades on the job to install Manetta.

When asked why he was there, Ferguson deadpanned: “I’m here about the job.” Actually, he was there representing a client who was seeking help from the IDA board.
