New Suffolk Legis. Monica Martinez has hired as a $44,709-a-year aide a former Salvadoran diplomat who is a partner with her brother in a political consulting firm.

Luis E. Montes Brito, 51, who lives in Bay Shore, started as a legislative aide earlier this month. Montes Brito is also a partner with Martinez’ brother Tony, a Babylon town board member, in Pan American Communicaitons LLC, a political consulting firm specializing in reaching Hispanic voters, according to the firm’s website.

Montes Brito is also the father of Luis Montes, a $110,000-a-year assistant deputy county executive who is Bellone’s top lobbyist in Albany. Montes said he was once the third partner in the consulting firm until he joined the Bellone administration and sold his share of the Brightwaters-based business.

Tony Martinez, who is also Babylon deputy supervisor and co-chaired Bellone’s transition team, said he played no part in Montes-Brito’s hiring. “He played his own role,” said Martinez, adding “he was very helpful in the campaign and has very strong roots in the community.”

Montes, 33, said he also played no part in his father’s hiring. Montes and his wife Ana, who has a $28,000-a-year job in the newly created traffic violation agency, live with Montes’ father. The legislator did not return calls to her office Friday.

Montes-Brito in the past has served as general counsel to El Salvador on Long Island and in Florida and vice minister of foreign affairs for Salvadorans living abroad under former president Elias Antonio Saca, according to the firm’s website.

The firm was paid $10,000 last year by Thomas Suozzi’s county executive campaign and in the past has worked for Rep. Steve Israel, Assemb. Phil Ramos and the Suffolk Democratic Committee.
