Who knew there was a trophy for the town with the most entrants in this year’s May 2nd Long Island Marathon?

And a pretty impressive-looking trophy. A base with two columns, a cup atop the columns and a statue of a runner, arms upraised, atop the cup.

The winning town was Hempstead, and accepting on behalf of the town was Supervisor Kate Murray.

Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano presented the trophy to Murray in his Mineola office, and a picture of the event was sent to weekly newspapers, which printed it recently.
