BACKGROUND: Stern, 41, of Dix Hills, is running for his third term and also has the Independence and Working Families endorsements. He is a lawyer specializing in elder law and estate planning.
ISSUES: Stern said he has a proven record of holding the line on taxes and protecting the environment and open space preservation and wastewater management programs. He said if re-elected he will continue those initiatives. He cited legislation he sponsored that made Suffolk the first county in the country to ban bisphenol-A from hard plastic baby bottles and sippy cups used by children under age 3. "Since the passage of this bill," said Stern, "other counties and states have passed similar legislation citing our efforts, and now there is proposed legislation in the Senate to do the same."
