Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Roman Catholic Church in Southampton has a rich history, built over a century ago partly by wealthy Protestants in danger of losing their Irish immigrant servants who were threatening to go back to the homeland if they had no church. It was recently designated as the first minor basilica on Long Island.
