A school bus driver was in stable condition Sunday after his arrest for aggravated drunken driving after crashing a bus carrying students into a parked car in Farmingdale, officials said.
Michael Asseng, 47, of Deer Park, was issued an appearance ticket and is due in court Feb. 1. He remained in intensive care at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he was taken Friday after experiencing difficulty breathing following the crash, authorities said.
Four students, ranging in age from 6 to 12, were aboard the GMC Omnibus struck a parked vehicle on Midwood Avenue shortly before noon on Friday. No injuries were reported.
Responding officers determined Asseng was impaired by drugs and arrested him without incident at the scene, police said.
Police said Asseng is employed by ACME Bus Corp., which could not be reached for comment Saturday. The name of the school the children attend has not been released.
Asseng was charged under Leandra's Law with four counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired by drugs, police said.
