A small craft advisory is in effect Monday for portions of Long Island's South Shore waters, the National Weather Service said.
The advisory covers Monday afternoon to the late night hours for Moriches Inlet to Montauk Point; Fire Island Inlet to Moriches Inlet; and Sandy Hook to Fire Island Inlet.
A series of lows near the Canadian Maritimes will consolidate into one main low well east of New England by Wednesday, the service said. At the same time, weakening high pressure builds east from the Midwest, keeping waters under a west-northwest flow most of Monday and into the nighttime hours.
Small craft advisory gusts are likely on ocean waters, which should diminish Tuesday, the service said.
Weather Monday on Long Island is expected to consist of partly cloudy skies with mild northwest winds and a chance of rain after 3 p.m.
