A small-craft advisory is in effect Wednesday for coastal waters from Montauk to Martha's Vineyard, the National Weather Service said in its marine forecast.
The advisory runs to 2 p.m. and extends 25 nautical miles south of Martha's Vineyard and 20 nautical miles south of Block Island, the service's Upton office said.
For most other waters, winds from the north and northeast will range from 5 to 10 knots with seas at 3 feet or less.
Wave heights on the South Shore are expected to be 1 foot or less.
Water temperatures range from 59.5 degrees at Montauk to 63.9 degrees at Kings Point, the service said.
Inland temperatures in the mid to upper 70s are forecast Wednesday for Long Island, with light winds from the north shifting to the southeast in the afternoon.
