LIRR train service was restored after being disrupted Tuesday night on the Long Beach, Hempstead and West Hempstead branches due to smoke in a No. 2 subway train at the Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn, the railroad said.

Service between Jamaica and Atlantic Terminal was suspended at 6:15 p.m. as firefighters cleared the smoke.

The 6:18 p.m. Atlantic Terminal train due 7:07 at West Hempstead was canceled, LIRR said.

Service was restored shortly after 7 p.m., LIRR said, but it warned riders that delays and cancellations were still possible.
