Straphangers: M needs improvement

The M Line joined its track-mates in receiving a paltry C- grade in the latest rider report card.

Earlier this month, the J/Z Lines received the exact same grade from straphangers in the survey by the New York City Transit Authority.

Like those other two trains that run over the Williamsburg Bridge, the M received its lowest grades for the cleanliness of stations and cars, train announcements that are difficult to hear and a sense of security on the trains and in the station.

The M also received a D grade for "reasonable wait times for trains."

"Looking at the results for the M, our customers are placing a strong emphasis on service reliability and communications," said TA President Howard Roberts in a statement. "We appreciate this feedback, as it helps us decide how to allocate our resources as they become available."

The M received its best grade, B-, for working entrance turnstiles and the availability of MetroCard machines.

The TA distributed 30,560 survey cards to riders during three days last month. The agency received 1,004 completed cards back by mail and 356 votes over the Internet.

Out of the six lines surveyed so far this year, not a single train in the city has received any A grades in any category.
