12 drivers arrested in Suffolk sobriety patrol

Twelve people were arrested Friday night at a sobriety checkpoint in Smithtown, Suffolk County police said.

Police said arrests were made as 655 vehicles went through the checkpoint, which was set up on Route 25.

Charged with driving while intoxicated were: Matthew McGuirk, 23, of 21 Rose Ct., Commack; David Lamanga, 28, of 4476 Express Dr., Ronkonkoma; Michael Chwalek, 34, of 11 Kental Lane, Nesconset; Jason O'Conner, 34, of 69 Holbrook Rd., Centereach; Dennis Woll, 31, of 20 Dare Rd., Selden; Alberto Perez, 26, of 85 Pond Path, Lake Grove; Steven Trinkle, 23, of 7 Oakway Dr., Stony Brook; Antonio Delacruz, 38, of 108 Colony Dr., Holbrook; Jose Turcios, 36, of 55 Newton Blvd., Lake Ronkonkoma; and Thomas Carney, 52, of 3 Chevy Dr., South Setauket.

Charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs were: Matthew Russo, 23, of 10 Chelsea Dr., Mount Sinai, and John Emig, 26, of 25 Cleveland St., Islip Terrace.

Suffolk County Highway Patrol and Fourth Precinct officers, assisted by New York State Troopers and Metropolitan Transportation Authority police officers, conducted the checkpoint.

Those arrested are scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.
