3 face charges in sale of alcohol to minors

Three gas station attendants were arrested on charges of selling alcohol to a minor during an undercover police operation in the Centereach-Port Jefferson Station area Thursday, Suffolk County police said.

Clerks at six other stations complied with the law.

Akkaya Husamettin, 51, of Elmont, was arrested at OK Petroleum on Route 25 in Centereach, while Subedi Ramchandra, 29, of Coram, was arrested at the BP station on Route 347 in Centereach, and Eduardo Bauzon, 60, of Port Jefferson, was arrested at the Sunoco station on Terryville Road in Port Jefferson Station. Each was charged with first-degree unlawfully dealing with a child.

Each was issued an appearance ticket returnable to First District Court in Central Islip on Dec. 5, police said.

Police said the three men each sold alcohol to a minor during the operation, conducted by Sixth Precinct Crime Section officers with the assistance of two underage agents.

The operation tested the ability for a minor to purchase alcohol at nine area businesses.

Police said clerks at the following stations complied with the law, refusing to sell alcohol to a minor: BP station at 1258 Rte. 25, Selden; Valero at 1274 Rte. 25, Selden; Mobil at 2033 Rte. 25, Centereach; Exxon at 2309 Rte. 25, Centereach; BP on Rte. 25, Centereach; and Sunoco at 699 Old Town Rd., Port Jefferson Station.
