A snag in getting unpaid Suffolk parks job

A legislative resolution to name Suffolk Executive Steve Bellone's wife, Tracey, to an unpaid post as county parks trustee disappeared last week from the parks committee agenda. It was quietly withdrawn after county attorneys discovered the county code bars state or local government appointees from parks trusteeships. She is Babylon's deputy parks commissioner.

Ironically, the current county parks commissioner, Gregory Dawson, inadvertently violated the same restriction by serving as a parks trustee while parks commissioner for Islip. A bill is expected to be filed to change the county code, which could then allow the appointment for Tracey Bellone, a former deputy county parks commissioner, to be refiled.-- Rick Brand
