Cops: 2 killed in Southern State crash

A 25-year-old Smithtown man and a 39-year-old Brentwood man were killed in a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon that closed westbound Southern State Parkway in West Islip, State Police said.

The men killed were driving the vehicles west when the crash occurred east of Exit 39, near Udall Road, about 3:55 p.m., police said.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene and the other man was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The westbound lanes of the parkway were closed through the evening, but have reopened, police said.

The identities of the men were not released Friday night and the investigation continues, police said.

State Police ask if anyone has information about the crash to contact investigators at 631-756-3300.
