Five people were arrested on weapons charges in Deer Park after narcotics investigators saw what they believed was a drug deal in a parking lot and found a loaded gun in a vehicle during a traffic stop, State Police said.

The investigators saw the activity in the lot near Deer Park Avenue and Grand Boulevard about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday and followed a Jeep after it drove away, police said.

Police said they found a defaced, loaded .38 caliber revolver in the vehicle after stopping it on Grand Boulevard near 10th Street.

Donte McLeod, 19, of Melville; Robert Jones, 19, of Deer Park; Ronald Kibler, 22, of Deer Park; Shannon Kalish, 18, of Melville; and Joseph Benedetto, 21, of Deer Park, were taken into custody, police said.

All were charged with felony weapons possession; Kalish and Jones also were charged with misdemeanor drug possession for Xanax found in their possession, police said.

The defendants were in custody Thursday and scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip.
