A sobriety checkpoint on Route 25 in Centereach Friday night into early Saturday nabbed five drivers who were under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Suffolk police said.

Charged with driving while intoxicated were Nelson Galvez, 42, of 376 Hawkins Rd., Centereach; Gary Greene, 54, of 5 Harness Court, Yaphank; and Stephanie Dermody-McGonigle, 22, of 12 Lakeside Trail, Ridge.

Police charged Lauren Ibsen, 24, of 73 Saddle Rock Rd., East Setauket, with driving while ability impaired by alcohol, and Christine Derenzo, 21, of 3684 Mallard Rd., Levittown, with driving while ability impaired by drugs.

The checkpoint, conducted by Suffolk County Highway Patrol and Sixth Precinct officers assisted by Suffolk County Parks Police and Metropolitan Transportation Authority police officers, also resulted in the seizure of one vehicle.

Police said 728 vehicles went through the checkpoint between 11:10 p.m. and 3 a.m.

Those arrested were scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.
