A Bay Shore man violated Leandra's Law when he drove drunk Friday with two children as passengers on the Southern State Parkway in North Amityville, State Police said.
Julio Ramos, 41, was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a passenger 15 years old or younger, also known as Leandra's Law, and also with a second felony for driving while intoxicated because of a previous alcohol-related driving conviction within the last 10 years, police said in a news release Monday.
He also was charged with several driving violations.
Troopers said Ramos was driving a gray Chevrolet pickup in and out of his lane on the parkway near Route 110 at about 8:50 p.m. He also passed a marked trooper's car and drove across markings near the center median, police said in a news release.
Ramos was stopped, failed sobriety tests and produced a breath-analyzer reading of .21 percent, above the legal limit of .08 percent.
Police said Ramos was arrested and the two children were released to a family member. Police did not have the children's ages and did not specify their relationship to Ramos.
Ramos was held for arraignment in First District Court. His arraignment information was not immediately available.
