A Selden woman was driving drunk when she rear-ended an unoccupied Suffolk County police cruiser early Monday in Hauppauge, police said.
Bernadette Romeo, 39, was driving a 2006 Chrysler west on Route 347 just after midnight when she hit the cruiser, which had its flashers activated and was blocking a lane so a tow truck could load a vehicle from a previous accident, police said.
No one was injured, police said, and the cruiser had minor damage.
The tow truck was responding to a two-car accident reported at 11:55 p.m. Sunday at Route 347 and Plaisted Avenue, police said.
In that accident, a 2008 Infinity making a left turn from Route 347 to Plaisted Avenue was struck by a 2007 Honda, police said. The driver of the Honda had minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
As police were monitoring the area and the tow truck was loading the second vehicle in the accident, Romeo's Chrysler hit the cruiser, police said.
Romeo was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. Her arraignment information was not immediately available.
