Cops: Driver high on drugs injures motorcyclist
Raymond Card, 48, of Huntington, was riding his 2000 Yamaha motorcycle north on Belmont Avenue at about 6:30 Sunday evening when he was struck at Van Buren Street by a 2003 Chrysler driven by James Kavanaugh, 22, of West Babylon, police said.
Kavanaugh, who was driving south on Belmont Avenue and trying to turn east on Van Buren Street, was arrested and charged with "operating a motor vehicle while his ability was impaired by drugs," police said.
Police Sunday did not say what drugs Kavanaugh had allegedly been taking.
His motorcycle lay on its side among debris at the crash scene Sunday evening. Suffolk County police detectives remained on the scene as late as 9 p.m.
North Babylon Fire Company officials, who also responded, would not comment on the crash.
Kavanaugh is scheduled to be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Central Islip, police said.
