The driver of a Mercedes-Benz sedan that burst into flames and ended up on its side after hitting a house and then a utility pole early Thursday in Lindenhurst was drunk, Suffolk County police said.

A police spokeswoman said the driver, Donta L. Riddick, 26, of Bay Shore, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with minor injuries.

Police said Riddick's car hit a house on Park Avenue before he rammed it into a Long Island Power Authority pole near East Hoffman Avenue at about 3:55 a.m.

The utility company sent a crew to make repairs, and Park Avenue was closed between Montauk Highway and East Hoffman Avenue until about 6 a.m. as the crash was investigated, the spokeswoman said.

The Lindenhurst Fire Department also responded and put out the car fire, police said.

Riddick faces charges of driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident and unlawful possession of marijuana.

His arraignment information was not immediately available.

The investigation is continuing, police said.
