A Babylon man was seriously injured Wednesday after crashing his speeding car into a utility pole in Deer Park, Suffolk County police said.

Police saw Frank Alfani, 58, speeding in Deer Park at about 12:45 p.m., a department spokeswoman said.

An officer in a patrol car made a U-turn in an attempt to pull over Alfani, but his vehicle had vanished from view, the spokeswoman said.

By the time police found Alfani's car, he had crashed it into a utility pole on Tell Avenue, the spokeswoman said.

Alfani was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with serious injuries, the spokeswoman said. She did not have details on his injuries Thursday morning.

Alfani is charged with reckless driving and had outstanding warrants for vehicle and traffic violations, police said.
