A Hampton Bays woman faces a drunken driving charge in a weekend accident in Southampton that left a passenger in her car dead, police said Tuesday.
Allison Jane Rydberg, 25, of Hampton Bays, was arraigned Monday at Southampton Village Justice Court on a misdemeanor DWI charge, Southampton Village police said in a news release.
Rydberg was released from custody after posting $75,000 cash bail, police said. It was unclear when she is due to return to court or who represents her.
The investigation into the accident early Saturday is continuing, police said.
Police said at 2:37 a.m. they responded to the one-car crash on Flying Point Road near Route 27A in Southampton. Police said they found Rydberg and her passenger, Jason H. Pollak, 24, of Water Mill, in a 1997 Toyota Avalon that was resting next to a tree.
Pollak was taken to Southampton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities used the Jaws of Life tool to remove Rydberg, who was sent to Southampton Hospital and then to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was initially listed in critical, but stable condition. The status of her injuries was not known.
The Southampton Village Detectives Division and members of the State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating the crash, police said.
