A Holbrook man was arrested Thursday, because he was stealing packages from his neighbors' doorsteps, Suffolk police said.

Residents who live in the Woodgate Village condominium complex told police they saw two men stealing packages from doorsteps on Springmeadow Drive. One of the neighbors was able to detain Jaquan Casserly, 25, until police arrived.

Police said they recovered "numerous stolen items," including coats, a kitchen stand mixer, a handbag and steaks, and found empty packaging nearby. Canine officers recovered package contents that were discarded in the back of the condo complex as well.

Casserly, who lives on Springmeadow Drive, was arrested at 5:30 p.m. and was charged with five counts of fifth-degree stolen property. Police said he will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip "at a later date," but did not say when.

No second suspect was apprehended. A police spokeswoman said the Fifth Precinct is investigating.
