Police are trying to determine the identity of a man whose body was found behind a trash bin in a parking lot in Copiague.

The man "appeared to be the victim of violence," police said.

The victim was found in a lot on Ralph Avenue at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday by Suffolk County police First Precinct officers responding to a 911 call reporting the discovery, police said.

Police did not provide information regarding any possible cause of death or say if they believe the man died at the location where his body was discovered.

An autopsy is pending.
