Cops: Jean Yves killed in possible gang shooting outside Deer Park bar
Suffolk County police said they are investigating a possible gang-related shooting death outside a Deer Park bar early Thursday that also injured another man.
The slain man was identified by police as Jean Yves, 25, of Wyandanch.
The other victim was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip after being hit in the chest by gunfire shortly after 2:20 a.m. in a parking lot of the Night Owl Lounge, 825 Long Island Ave., police said.
Homicide Det. Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick told reporters Thursday that police "are examining the possibility that the shooting is gang-related."
Three people in a white Cadillac pulled into the bar's parking lot just before two people in a group standing outside fired several shots at the car, police said.
The driver, Yves, and a passenger were struck and taken to Good Samaritan; the third person was not injured.
Yves was pronounced dead at the hospital, and police said in a news release the condition of the passenger shot in the chest "is unknown at this time."
The bullet-riddled car had holes in the driver-side door and back window.
Town of Babylon code enforcement officers closed the bar down Thursday afternoon because they said it had no certificate of occupancy. Town spokesman Kevin Bonner said it also had no public assembly permit. The Lounge also lacked the proper plumbing and electrical certifications, Bonner said.
"For that reason, code enforcement cited the building as unlawful and unsafe and shut it down," he said. Bar owner Desiree O'Gorman, of Deer Park, said she inherited the bar from her husband three years ago. He had run the bar for more than 40 years, she said, but recently the atmosphere had become unsavory, with fights often breaking out late at night.
