Cops: Mastic man arrested in bank robbery spree

A Mastic man was arrested Friday and charged with robbing three banks and trying to rob another in an eight-day crime spree, Suffolk police said.
John Harvey, 21, of 22 Applegate Dr., was arrested in connection with robberies at banks in Mastic, Center Moriches and Patchogue after Pattern Crime Unit detectives analyzed video surveillance and collected tips from the public. Harvey was arrested at the corner of Winters and Kameo drives in Mastic without incident at 3:24 p.m. Friday, police said.
Police said his robbery attempt occurred at a HSBC bank on Monday in Mastic, and the robberies at a Capital One bank on Feb. 27 in Mastic, a Chase bank on Monday in Center Moriches and a Chase bank in Patchogue on Thursday.
His attorney could not be reached for comment.
Harvey faces three counts of third-degree robbery and one count of third-degree attempted robbery. He is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip, authorities said.
