Cops: Montauk man charged in fatal Amagansett hit-run
A 30-year-old Montauk man was arrested Thursday afternoon and charged in a fatal hit-and-run accident in Amagansett that caused the death of a pedestrian in October.
Edward L. Orr, 30, of 18 Edison Dr., was arrested in the crash that killed John Judge, 61, of East Hampton, after evidence from the scene was linked to a 2004 Jeep Cherokee owned by Orr and recovered in New Jersey, East Hampton Town police said early Friday.
Police did not immediately detail the charges against Orr, who was arrested at 3:25 p.m.
Judge was struck and killed on Main Street in Amagansett early in the evening on Oct. 23, police said. He was found by a passing motorist near a parked car on the eastbound shoulder of the road near Hedges Lane, police said. Judge was taken to Southampton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Immediately after the hit-and-run crash police said they believed the vehicle that struck Judge suffered "front-end damage" -- though it is not clear what evidence was recovered as the crash scene.
Arraignment details also were not available.
